Why are there so many arcades about hockey on mobiles? Are there so many people who want to play it again and again? I mean, these are all fine games, but it’s already fourth or fifth of them. Why not just pick another sport? I heard curling is quite fun. Well, whatever, Ice Rage is another addition to this pocket genre. In Ice Rage you need to play on a very small field, with two players on your team going against two other players on the other.
If you think you’re quite too skilled in Ice Rage, you can also take control of the goalkeeper, controlling his position with the same virtual stick as you do with your main guy.
The arena fills a single screen, with two nets being situated on the opposite sides of a screen. There are several ways of controlling the game, depending on how complicated you want the game to be. The simplest one only lets you press the “shoot” button to release the pug and punch the other attacker whenever you want to, while your player automatically runs for the pug and when he gets it – rushes to the enemy net. The more complicated way lets you also control the movements of your player with virtual stick, which makes it a tad more difficult, but of course, grants you a great deal of control over the field. Finally, if you think you’re quite too skilled in Ice Rage, you can also take control of the goalkeeper, controlling his position with the same virtual stick as you do with your main guy. This makes it quite impossible to play against the AI, but it’s more than enough to play against your friend on one screen, since the game also supports multiplayer. There is a total of four different modes, one allows you to battle against a single enemy, another one is a sort of mini-campaign that puts you against series of enemies and lets you improve your attackers’ abilities in-between them, and the third one puts you against three teams, who you need to defeat by scoring goals, as well as by punching their players. Be careful, though, since you only get a single “health” bar, while they have three separate. There is also a wide set of characters you can play as, many of them being homages to other games from the developer or even some pop-culture icons. Wrapping up, there’s nothing particularly unique in Ice Rage that makes it stand out from all the other arcade sports simulators, but on the other hand, the game is still quite fun. Sure, it’s really small, but it’s still interesting enough to waste several hours of your time. Besides, there’s always multiplayer mode, in case you won’t have anything to do with your friend.
